A Mom’s Guide to Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party
How to Make the Most of Magic Kingdom’s Spookiest (and Sweetest) Night
As a mom and Disney travel planner, I know firsthand that Halloween at Walt Disney World is one of the most enchanting times of the year. But with little ones in tow, it can feel a bit overwhelming, especially if it’s your first time attending Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party (MNSSHP for short!).
Don’t worry—I’ve got you! This guide is designed especially for moms who want to make the most of this limited-time event without the stress. Think of it as your pumpkin-spiced path to a magical, memory-making night.
What Is Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party?
It’s a separately ticketed event at Magic Kingdom that runs on select nights from mid-August through Halloween. The party officially starts at 7 PM, but guests with party tickets can enter the park as early as 4 PM! You will get a special wristband and a candy bag for trick-or-treating
Trick-or-treating stations are clearly marked around the park with these markers. You will also get a map showing you all the locations to get candy!
The vibe? Whimsical, not terrifying. Think dancing skeletons, trick-or-treating trails, rare characters in costumes, and a seriously stunning Halloween fireworks show.
Why Moms (and Kids!) Love It
No-scary guarantee: It’s spooky without the nightmares—perfect for little ones.
Trick-or-treating, and allergy-friendly options are available!
Special shows: The “Hocus Pocus Villain Spelltacular” is a must-see.
Shorter lines on rides during the party and even shorter crowds during the day (keep reading 👇)
What to Bring
Here’s what I always pack in my park bag for a stress-free party night:
Costumes: Kids and adults can dress up! Just make sure it’s weather-friendly.
Glow sticks or light-up toys: Keeps kids visible and entertained while waiting.
Snacks: There’s candy, but bring something more substantial for little tummies.
Stroller with a fan: Florida in fall = still warm!
Portable charger: You’ll want to capture all those adorable costume pics.
Don’t bother bringing your own bags for candy, those are provided for you!
The special shows are a MUST see!
Top 5 Amy-Approved Tips
Use your full party time
Party guests can enter Magic Kingdom at 4 PM—don’t miss those bonus 3 hours!Don’t try to do it all
Decide: Are you here for rides, characters, or entertainment? Prioritize 1–2 so everyone has fun without FOMO or meltdowns.Have an early dinner before the party starts
Grab a bite at your resort or a quick service spot in the park before 7 PM when special treats and entertainment begin.Catch the second parade
The “Boo-To-You” parade is a must-see. The second performance (usually around 11:15 PM) is much less crowded and perfect if your kids are night owls.Go light on the candy haul
Trick-or-treating is fun, but it can eat up a lot of time. Grab a few goodies, then move on to memories that can’t be packed in a Ziploc.
The Boo to You Halloween parade is one of the BEST parts of the party!
Is It Worth It for Families with Young Kids?
Yes—with a little strategy! The party is magical, manageable, and full of unique experiences you won’t find during a regular park day. Whether your little one is dressed as Elsa, Buzz, or a tiny pumpkin, they’ll be part of the most memorable Halloween night ever.
Bonus tip for budget-conscious families: Use your MNSSHP ticket as your “park ticket” that day and skip the morning park admission. You can sleep in, have a relaxed resort day, maybe do a big character meal for lunch, and then head to the party at 4 PM!
One final tip that nobody else will tell you:
Even if you aren’t attending the party, you should go to Magic Kingdom on a party day!
This might surprise you, but party days are actually the BEST days to visit Magic Kingdom, even if you aren’t attending the party. Why? Because guests without party tickets are asked to leave at 6 PM, so most people skip Magic Kingdom altogether that day.
Translation? Super low crowds during the day. You can ride more rides, enjoy the park at a relaxed pace, and then hop to another park or head back to the resort for dinner and fireworks.
Bonus: If you do have party tickets, spend the morning in Magic Kingdom, take a midday break, and return refreshed at 4 PM for party fun!
